Alex Hastie, Managing Partner

Alex Hastie is the managing partner of Hastie Legal. He leads the criminal/traffic liquor law practices. His primary focus is on OVI/DUI defense cases.

He graduated from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and from the College of Wooster with B.S. in Political Science.

Alex and his wife, Sarah, and his son, William, reside in Grandview Heights, and is an avid cyclist, musician, and Ohio historian. Alex is on the Board of Trustees with the Ohio History Connection (formerly the Ohio Historical Society) and hosts the popular Ohio history podcast, “Ohio v. the World.” Alex was the Michael Colley Campaign Manager of the Year in Franklin County in 2013 and continues to volunteer for judicial election campaigns across the county. He’s also honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the Columbus Italian Club, Independents Day, Inc. Music and Arts Festival, We Amplify Voices (WAV) and the Cornerstone of Hope.

Ed Hastie, Of Counsel

Edward W. Hastie, III, is of counsel with Hastie Legal, LLC. His practice areas include liquor law and small business practice, and also represents defendant’s in complex criminal matters.

Edward graduated from Ohio University (B.B.A., Finance), and from Cleveland State University School of Law in 2005. After law school, he worked as an Assistant Attorney General at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office under Jim Petro.

There, he was assigned to the Environmental Enforcement Section, where he focused on complex solid waste, groundwater, and emergency response litigation. Edward represented the state of Ohio in multiple courts throughout Ohio, including the United States Federal district court.

Prior to opening his own firm, Hastie Law Office, in 2009, Edward worked as an associate at Newhouse, Prophater, Letcher, and Moots, LLC, where he focused his practice on liquor law, employment law, real estate, and litigation. He also did stint as a partner at Brennan, Manna & Diamond before reopening his firm Hastie Law Office.

Best known as a “liquor lawyer” – Ed represents a variety of hospitality industry clients (hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and the like) in all facets of the law, including administrative proceedings, purchase/sale transactions, and real estate. He also has dedicated a large portion of his practice of his career to defending persons accused of criminal misconduct.

He has also worked on several notable matters – including successfully defending Ezekiel Elliott against unfounded criminal charges and representing “ComFest” in its suit against the State of Ohio, successfully defending a woman’s right to be topless in public, the abolition of the city-wide curfew in Columbus in the Summer of 2020 and halting the Columbus City Council’s attempt to force bars and restaurants to close at 10pm in 2020.

Edward and his wife, Marissa, live in Grandview Heights, where he serves as a member of Grandview Heights City Council, his hometown. They have two sons, Edward and Henry. Currently, he serves on the Board of Ballyneal Golf & Hunt Club in Holyoke, Colorado – a Golf Digest “Top 100” course.

In his free time, he enjoys golf, coaching his childrens’ sports teams and traveling.
